DAY TEACHERS

 

 

         TWO YEAR OLD CLASS

 

Monica – Monica is returning to Bering Drive Christian School for her 6th year.  She will be teaching the younger 2 year old class as well as assisting in Extended Care.  “I’m looking forward to another amazing year with our returning and new friends!”

 

 

 

 

         TWO YEAR OLD CLASS

 

Teddi –  Teddi is returning for her 14th year at Bering Drive Christian School.  She has a BA in Sociology from Stephen F. Austin State University.  She and her husband have 3 children with ages ranging from 26 to 18.  In her spare time she enjoys reading, hiking and yoga.

         THREE YEAR OLD CLASS

 

Paula – This will be Paula’s 7th year at Bering Drive Christian School.  She previously worked for 8 years as a 3 year-old teacher and a teacher’s aid in 4’s at another private school, as well as having previously taught pre-school Spanish.  She is presently in her seventh year at Houston Community College and plans to transfer to the University of Houston Downtown for a degree in Early Childhood Education after receiving her AA degree from HCC.  She is married and has 3 beautiful daughters, ages 16, 14 and 7 years old.  “I am excited about working with your children and meeting each one of you.  I look forward to a great year!”

 

 

          FOUR YEAR OLD CLASS 

 

Kate – Kate is returning for her 13th great year.  She was born in Zimbabwe, educated in South Africa and is of Greek heritage.  She speaks two languages fluently, English and Greek.  She is a Microbiologist by profession, also holding diplomas in Cosmetic Science, Child Day Care, and a CDS (Child Development Associate).  “I enjoy interacting with children, which has led me into the field of child education, first as a substitute teacher, and now in a full time capacity.”  She is married and they have 2 wonderful daughters.  Her interests are cooking, reading and spending as much time as possible with her family.

 

 

ASSISTANTS & EXTENDED CARE TEACHERS

 

Diana – This will be Diana’s 1st year at Bering Drive Christian School. She has previously worked at another private school for 2 years as an Extended Care teacher.  She will be working with Ms. Monica with the younger 2 year olds, and also in Extended Care.  “I am excited about the new year with the children at Bering Drive Christian School!”

 

 

 

Isabel  – This will be Isabel’s 6th year at Bering Drive Christian School.  She will be continuing her education by taking classes in early childhood.  She worked for 8 years as a teacher’s aid in the 3’s and 4’s at another private school, as well as having previously taught pre-school Spanish.  She will be working with Ms. Paula in the 3 year old class.  She is married and they have 2 wonderful daughters, ages 6 and 12 years old.  She is excited about the new year.

 

 

Saeda (Sandy) – This will be Sandy's 9th year with Bering Drive Christian School.  She graduated from the University of Houston with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics.  Sandy says, “I love teaching and learning.  I want to pass my love for learning to our students.  I want our students to be motivated to learn and to find learning fun.  I believe in developing life-long learners.  I also believe in creating a positive learning environment.  I want our students to view the classroom as a place where they can learn, work, share and play together. I want to help make your child’s Pre-K experience a positive and successful one!  I look forward to helping your child achieve the strategies needed to be successful throughout the school year.  I will do my best to ensure that your child will mature academically and socially. Hand in hand, together we can.”

In addition to her duties as the assistant in the Pre-K class, Sandy is excited to be teaching Physical Education to all the students this year on Thursdays and Fridays

Sarah – This will be Sarah’s 4th year at Bering Drive Christian School.  She is a full time student at the University of Houston and will be graduating in May of 2012 with a degree in Elementary Education.  She hopes to teach 2nd or 3rd grade and hopes to start her own jump rope team.  She is excited about the new year and can not wait to have fun with the kids during extended care!

 

 

Jessica – This will be Jessica’s 1st year at Bering Drive Christian School.  She is a full time student at the University of Houston majoring in Kinesiology.  She plans to go to Nursing School afterward and eventually become a children’s nurse.  She worked with extended care during the summer and cannot wait to see all of the new faces that will join extended care this school year!

 

 

 

 

 

MUSIC AND MOVEMENT

 

Melanie – Melanie Simpson will again teach Music and Movement to all age groups on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings.  Your child will sing, play rhythm instruments, begin rhythmic pattern recognition, play musical games and develop music listening skills.  Melanie lives in Katy with her husband and two children.  During the week, she teaches private music lessons and group music classes for homeschoolers through her business, Melanie’s Melody.  www.MelaniesMelody,com

 

 

 

OFFICE STAFF

 

 

Katie (Secretary) – This will be Katie’s first year at Bering Drive Christian School. She has a Bachelors of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies from Sam Houston State University.  She has always felt called to be involved in Christian Education.  Katie is a native Houstonian, and a graduate of Westside High School.  Katie brings energy and excitement to our staff.

 

 

 

Susan (accounting) – Susan is returning for her 17th year at Bering Drive Christian School, but has worked for Joan as her secretary since 1988.  She will be working 3 - 4 days a month this year handling the accounting needs.  Her husband works for a petrochemical engineering company as one of the department heads of the Design group.  They have two daughters and two grandchildren who are the light of their lives.

 

 

 

Joan Howard (Director) – Joan’s background is speech education.  She has taught and substituted in both public and private schools in the past.  Each year she went down a few grades until she found her real love to be with pre-schoolers.  She has been a school director for over 25 years.

Joan is married to one of the ministers of Bering Drive Church of Christ, Don Edwards, and lives in the Sugar Land area.  In Don and Joan’s blended families, they have 6 children and 14 grandchildren.  The youngest grandchild attends Bering Drive Christian School.

Joan is also a Realtor working with Vonnie Cobb Inc, Realtors selling homes in the areas in and around Houston.  She enjoys adults and finds the legalities of real estate to be a nice blend after a day with children.
